A poem dedicated to my tree which was cut down by the city.

The Oak Tree

Planted by the hand of man
To add beauty to a small town
You grew strong and tall
Your roots deep in the ground

You have survived so many years
As generations have come and gone
Weathered storm after storm
And given much wildlife a home

No one will ever no
The part in lives you’ve played
Kid’s games, shelter from storms, enjoyment
And in the heat provided shade

You did the job you were chosen for
Adding character to a small town
Such a shame that the hand of man
Has now cut you down
